In today’s busy world ( albeit most of us are currently at home due to the pandemic), as soon as we wake up we put the kettle on. Or the blender for smoothie lovers. Bleary eyed we stumble out of bed, needing a caffeine hit and hope to be energised in order to face the daily tasks that lie ahead.
There is nothing wrong with this but imagine a day where we energise ourselves first and foremost by focusing on our energy. The coffee, tea and smoothies are definitely important, but a proper morning routine to get happy energy flowing through the body will have longer term effects .

You must experiment and find what works for you but target first and foremost what your mind and body requires.
The first thing to do that is very important in the morning and can apply to absolutely anyone regardless of diet or health conditions is very very simple and that is- to drink water on an empty stomach. Do this before the hot drink or the smoothies. It helps to hydrate you immediately after your sleep and also kick starts your system, by cleansing and getting things moving in the purest fashion, since we need water and are made of water. Your stomach may also be less sensitive to caffeine if you have water before your tea of coffee. For elderly people or young children, it is better if the water is lukewarm.
In order to combat the daily tasks with a clear, creative and calm mind, meditation in the morning is very beneficial. You use many apps such as headspace or calm, or find guided meditations on youtube. Another way to silence the mind is by lighting a candle and focusing on the flame for a set period of time. Some people meditate by praying daily. The benefits of meditating are vast and will be covered in a separate article following this one but a clear and calm mind is very important.
If you are struggling with anxiety, stress or feeling overwhelmed by the current pandemic, saying 10 things that you are grateful out loud for does wonders, especially long term. It can shift your entire perspective and before you know it, you are no longer triggered by irrelevant factors. Alternatively, there are guided gratitude meditations on YouTube.
Exercise also invigorates you and helps you to feel fresh and awake and of course keeps you fit and healthy. Endorphins are released after exercising and you feel great throughout the rest of the day.
Another great thing to have a productive day is by setting your intentions and goals for the day. Ask yourself, ” How do I want to feel today?”. ” How will I respond to factors beyond my control?”. ” What do I wish to achieve and complete today?”.
Small things such as all the above really help a great deal. The mornings are very important for our how and mind and body will function throughout the rest of the day.
