Communication. The backbone of relationship building, conflict resolution, positive working environments, understanding and transparency. So much importance is placed on how we communicate with others. The words we choose in a conversation can create or determine an outcome. Think about how much power communicating with others holds.
And yet, how much emphasis is placed upon the impact that our inner dialogue can have on ourselves? Thoughts and self-talk can make or break our day. Days lead into weeks, weeks lead into months, and so on…
We are often harsher on ourselves that we are with anyone else. During periods of vulnerability our negative self- talk can create a downwards spiral. Take a second to think about your thoughts and opinions on yourself. Do you wake up in the morning and connect to your inner being by saying positive and motivating words? Many successful and strong individuals constantly assess how they speak to themselves. Feed your mind with positive things about yourself.
Here are some instances where the inner dialogue can be extremely self-critical:
- Making a mistake- it is okay to make a mistake. Do not turn inwards and put yourself down or feel embarrassed because other people witnessed your error. Everyone makes mistakes, it’s just that a majority of people rush to conceal them. You made a mistake, so what? Note down where you went wrong, learn from it and move on.
- Appearance. Happiness from within really does radiate through. How you feel about yourself can affect your social interactions, posture, and overall confidence. Every single person on this planet is different with different inner and outer qualities. Embrace yourself because that’s what makes you, you. When you are happy from within, your energy will be refreshing and warm and it is usually a person’s presence that holds greater power than appearance. Take care of yourself and be happy with yourself, it’s fairly simple.
- Self-Doubt. If you don’t believe in yourself it will permeate through in what you say, think and do and you will have a hard time convincing others to believe in you. Remind yourself in moments of doubt, that you are capable of achieving anything with hard work, focus and commitment.
There are various ways to be kinder with the words and thoughts we have towards ourselves. Guided meditations are one option. Writing down daily what you are grateful for in your life is another way to shift your thoughts to be more positive. And finally positive affirmations is another way, in which you read and repeat motivating strong statements to yourself either late at night or early in the morning.
Thoughts create feelings and in order to feel your best and happiest self- be kind to yourself.
